Today, I take a look at the Python Libraries useful when dealing with Geospatial Data. The most popular GIS; QGIS and ArcGIS are developed on Python thus giving us the power to extend their tools to suit our needs in the organization. For Instance, QGIS offers the “Plugin Builder” tool that is focused on personal tool creation by individuals or organization to do specific tasks as required. To do this, there are some Python Libraries that are required. Happy New Year.I have been reflecting on how the Life in GIS navigated through 2015 and mhh.. indeed a long journey began in 2015 and I intend to walk further in 2016.Learning GIS was a  great eye opener to a new world of great potential, full of cutting-edge technologies leveraging  modern architecture and tools to perfect the art of map making, aiding decision making, analyzing  factors affecting our societies and giving reliable solutions to gear up sustainable development. Its now 2016 and I have some things coming through.To really understand some of these issues, I have a lot of  thoughts regarding GIS; What will GIS have to offer to our societies in 2016?.Should we concentrate more on  Desktop GIS, Mobile GIS or Web GIS?.Which tool will be the 2016 savior in the GIS world?. What should we expect from both the Open Source sector and the proprietary sector?Will the life in GIS get better  with time?Having this in mind, I check all the angles in regard to software and hardware involved to ensure  am on the right path. As information is always the cornerstone of effective decisions, 2016 will demand more fast and easily accessible  platforms that will catch the attention of many end users.There will be fast internet connection across the globe,  more data sharing, more social chats, more data analysis and wider GIS applications in various sectors. There are platforms that have really made a breakthrough in the GIS world and more is expected from them.  Such include Mapbox, MangoMap, CartoDB,Geonode,  OpenGeo Suite, QGIS cloud, ArcGIS Online just to  mention a few.Comparing the current trends in GIS, we realize the increased developments in the web GIS sector. Hosting data on the cloud and enabling sharing and collaboration among various users have seen many projects  through and enabled a whole line of new products in this market. More sectors/industries will need GIS to better manage utilities, users and data, analyze data for decision making  and also upgrade existing platforms.We, at the GIS forefront, are ready to interact more with end users and  clients in this sector and help provide cutting edge products in their organizations and businesses. GIS is very useful in analyzing spatial relationship between features.It is important at times to find the features nearest to a feature in GIS.To achieve this, we can use the Distance Matrix that helps in calculating the distances between each point in the dataset. Steps You can use Vector > Analysis Tools > Distance Matrix, and a join to have an output layer that has all the required attributes. I will use the Towns layer to exemplify.
